What are the advantages of porcelain veneers?
- Porcelain veneers can improve the appearance of your teeth without invasive procedures.
- Veneers correct chips, cracks, stains, and small gaps in the teeth
- Porcelain veneers are crafted to match the natural look of your teeth
- Porcelain does not stain, so any color correction will last for years

How long do porcelain veneers last?
Porcelain veneers can last as long as ten years with proper care. To prolong their life, do not use veneers to pry open packages, chew ice, or bite your nails.
How do I care for my veneers?
Although you can eat almost anything you like, avoid hard foods such as nuts, and do not use your teeth to crack things open. Floss every day and brush your teeth twice daily. Have your teeth cleaned and veneers checked every six months. Your dentist may recommend wearing a night guard to protect your veneers if you tend to clench or grind your teeth.
Does insurance cover porcelain veneers?
It depends on the type of dental insurance you have. For most individuals, insurance does not cover cosmetic dental procedures such as veneers unless there is a medical necessity. However, some insurance will cover up to 50% of the cost of veneers. If you are considering porcelain veneers for cosmetic reasons, check with your insurance provider to ensure you understand your coverage limits.
Do porcelain veneers stain?
Porcelain veneers are highly stain-resistant, resisting permanent stains from wine, foods, and even tobacco. Any surface stains can be removed with routine brushing or a trip to your dentist’s office.
How long does it take to get porcelain veneers?
There are a few steps to the porcelain veneer process. Your dental history and aesthetic goals are reviewed at a consultation with Dr. Akbar or Dr. George. We will determine whether veneers are appropriate and take x-rays, 3D images, or impressions of your teeth. Next, your teeth are prepared for the veneers by removing a thin layer of enamel. Temporary veneers will be placed at this appointment while your custom veneers are crafted. The permanent veneers are cemented to your teeth at your next appointment. This typically takes 2-3 weeks.
Does it hurt to get veneers?
During the placement procedure, the area is numbed with a local anesthetic. Any discomfort after the procedure is mild and easily controlled with over-the-counter pain relievers. Most patients do not experience any lingering pain, but the chance of temporary soreness in the gums or jaw increases the more veneers you have placed.
Can I get veneers at any age?
Any adult with healthy teeth and gums can get porcelain veneers. We do not recommend them before the ages of 16-18, as the mouth continues to grow and change before this. Waiting until the teeth and mouth are fully mature ensures the best results.
Porcelain veneers are one of the most popular options for whitening teeth and improving the overall appearance of your smile.
